Mississippi Defines Personhood. Spelling Personhood Still a Challenge, Though.

Really Mississippi? Really?

Citizens of Mississippi are voting for legislation today that would define "personhood." The legislation, known as Initiative 26, could impact the Morning After pill, birth control and would make abortion completely illegal, even in cases of rape or incest.

Because we want every embryo in Mississippi to be made into a child. Every. Last. One. I mean, nothing says genetic superiority like motherfucking Mississippi.

I wish I had something funny to say, but I'm far too grossed out. Proponents of this amendment should be stabbed in their genitals

Watch this video for actual information on Initiative 26. I'm going to go take some birth control and enjoy my reproductive freedom before this dumb shit makes its way to Florida.

UPDATE: Initiative 26 was voted down by 58 percent of voters in Mississippi, but anti-choice zealots are still eager to get more "Personhood" initiatives on the 2012 ballots in Mississippi, Florida, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, Nevada and California.

So everyone who thinks this dumb-fuckery should be ended for good, contact you local lawmakers and let them know that you believe women should have more rights than a zygote.

They tried to pass this bullshit in CO a few years back too. It got shut down pretty hard there...but in Mississippi? God, if ever there was a state where both the gene pool and social rights could regress concurrently...

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why I moved back up to the Northeast.

Here's the thing, in the South, Mississippi is the weird cousin that eats their hair and wears camouflage all the time that we all like to pretend does not exist. We apologize for their behavior, there really is no excuse for them.

This is just outrageous, if every embryo is given child status then I demand the same status for every sperm and egg (otherwise it’s a bit like victimising single parents ).....

Once this goes through (and from what I hear of Mississippi it will) You (my internet wife) Mrs B (my on the spot wife) and myself will be moving down there and claiming child allowance for each and every one of our beautiful children, 85 million a day + an additional 2 every month (I need you girls to step up your egg production. If chickens can manage to ovulate daily.....)

we are going to be millionaires I tell you.....

Now where can we find a house big enough

Working on the basis that sperm lasts for two days we need to house 170 million + 2 children (come on guys step it up)
– not sure about you but I don’t want more than a million children sharing a bedroom at once – so as a minimum we need a 172 bedroom house (unless you and Mrs B don’t want to share) in which case 173, I’m sure we can work some sort of rota.....

Somehow they magically defeated this nonsense. Personally, I think most of them were just scared this would mean more gay babies would be born. If there's one thing Mississippi hates more than freedom for women, it's gay people.

Dear California, Thank you for being the land of my birth. Love, Dani

That said... are you fucking kidding me? I worked for 17 years with children born with severe disabilities. I came away with many things, but here's what I know FOR A FACT: Those legislators need to spend a life time dealing with a child who will never talk, never walk, never say I love you, never be able to live independantly, and will require every waking minute of their lives, forever, until they die. Then they need to walk in the shoes of a victim of incest who is pregnant, live inside the body of a child born to a meth addicted/heroin addicted/ AIDS infected mother...

I can't continue.

I'm so horrified and disgusted with this law.

Beer- Yeah, I had seen that it first was tried in CO, but it did make me a little more nervous that it would pass in the falling-down-the-stairs-while-pregnant-should-count-as-a-homicide South.

Monster- Lol. Amen.

Ally-LMFAO. I think I just peed a little!

BlackLOG- Sounds like we got a plan... and possibly a reality TV show.

Meg- Thank God!!!!

Heather- Lol. Yeah, cause at least us dumb broads got baby-making holes.

KillerCupcake- I was in the same boat. Just horrified that this is something that could even be a possibility.

Jason- Make sure you do us all a favor and vote against any ignorance that finds itself on the ballot.

Well "stabbing people in their genitals" would result in fewer unplanned pregnancies, and then abortion would be a non-issue. Congratulations, I believe you are responsible for world peace!
Great blog.

Melissa- Lol Awesome! I always wanted to accidentally be responsible for world peace.
