The Reason Kim Kardashian will be Going on a Killing Spree.

Some things are universally uncool.

Taking a photo of a pregnant woman's armpit fat, zooming in on it, pointing arrows at it, and then putting it on a national magazine has just won top billing on the "Not Fucking Cool" list.

I'm not what you would call a Kim Kardashian fan. In fact, I'm still pretty upset that she made me Google image search Ray-J's penis. But no woman, much less a pregnant woman, should be judged for some armpit/bra spillage. That's a dick move.

If she goes on a pregnant lady killing spree soon, it will be because of this picture. And I won't blame her. I would cut the shit out of someone with the razorblade I keep in my mouth, if a person took a picture of my armpit fat while I was just strolling around town.

And I'm not even creating a life inside of my uterus, I'm just a little bloated because Taco Bell started putting Doritos dust on their tacos.

Maybe I'm taking this a little too personally. But I've been working on not being such a mean, judgmental bitch lately. Partially because I don't want to crypt walk my way into hell, but also because we need to give each other a break--especially us ladies.

It's alright if you got a little armpit spillage. Or cellulite. Or watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians. It's all good.

So Kim, if somehow you found this blog while looking for a homemade frappuccino recipe, I just want you to know I'm on your side, girl.

And you should totally check out those Doritos tacos. They're my jam.

Please Don't Do That: Food and Sex Edition

I was surveying the magazine rack while waiting in line at the grocery store the other day, when I noticed a boisterous men's fitness magazine exclaiming that inside it's glossy pages lay sex tips bound to make its readers the greatest lovers imaginable. Okay, I'll bite.

I opened the magazine. It's my duty as an unqualified sexual advisor/coffee maker to know how to make a woman lose her shit. Also, I'm not entirely sure I don't have a quasi-lesbian phase ready to sneak up on me at any time.

The article read like cheap erotica. Supposedly women were telling about their hottest sexual experiences, and how they were linked to their senses.

Taste. Touch. Smell. Sleepy. Dopey. Doc. The whole gang.

About three sentences in, I knew it was going to end badly. It was like watching Jodi Foster give her speech at the Goldens Globes.

Is there anyway a woman actually wrote this? She must have been under duress. What are they doing to their female interns over at Men's Health?

"He poured honey over my navel and hip bones, then softly licked and bit my skin. When he kissed me afterward, he tasted sweet."

Umm, no. Have you ever fucked with honey?!

I'm a barista and can tell you for certain that honey is basically just tasty-ass super glue. You might as well roll around in hot tar.

Don't put honey on anyone.

Sure it sounds sexy in theory, but afterward when your lady friend has to loofah off three layers of skin just so she can stop feeling like a sticky mouse trap, she's not going to feel sexy. She's going to feel like she has road rash.

After being surprised that horrible sex advice came from an outlet other than Cosmo, I decided to do a little digging and see what other "advice" was aimed at the fellas. To my surprise, a lot of it revolved around sex and food.

"Anyone who watched Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke in the fridge scene in the kinky movie 9 1/2 Weeks, knows that food incorporated into a sexual encounter can make women crazy with delight." [AskMen.com]

A lot of things make me crazy with delight but getting hummus licked out of my bellybutton is not one of them.

You know what would make me crazy with delight? You not needing a snack during coitus.

And if you even think about putting honey on me, I get to punch you in the throat.

Guys, if you have questions about how to please your lady or what's appropriate to put on her while doing the no-pants dance, write to me at notreallyabarista@gmail.com. I'm completely unqualified, but I'm pretty sure that puts me in the same league as these folks writing for major publications.

Oh, and as always, you will remain anonymous.

Whoa! Shit Just Got Emotional, Y'all.

My best friend recently reminded me that it's been over a month since the last time I've blogged. To which I replied, “A month? No, I think it's only been about three weeks. Okay, maybe three and a half. Jesus, get off my ass.”

Or something like that.

I feel like these “Sorry I suck at blogging” apologies are becoming more frequent, and I wish I had a good excuse. Maybe something like “Sorry guys, can't talk about what's happening on 'My Strange Addiction' this week, because I'm Batman.” Or “I got a full-time job that doesn't require wearing a milk-stained apron.”

Neither of those are the case, though, unfortunately.

I seem to be going through something all bloggers deal with at some point. You start out fiery with schedules and infinite topics. You're commenting on everything and networking like a mother-fucking champ, and then the shine wears off. You get lazy. You start questioning yourself. Comparing yourself.

I sit down at my laptop and think “I'm sure as shit not The Bloggess. Hell, most people have only found my blog while searching for barista porn or asking Google how to sext.”

Proof.

But, I guess, such is life. Even things you love doing, don't always come easy. And you'll probably always question yourself. Wonder if you're good enough. If you're doing enough. If you're on the right path.

For anyone that doesn't know, I started blogging after realizing I didn't want to be a journalist. I was about a month away from graduation, which is the best time to figure out you don't want to do the thing you've spent the last four years preparing yourself to do. I was interning in public radio. Writing unbiased copy to be read on-air, and I was good at it. I had a very promising career in journalism, I was told. The same thing I had been told by the local newspaper I worked for, a few months prior.

But that didn't make my days go by any faster. I just wanted to write. I didn't want to dig up a story. I wanted to create a story. But I didn't think becoming a writer was feasible, so I decided to major in journalism. To me, it was the responsible choice.

Then I took a creative writing class, my last semester. I had avoided any form of non-journalistic writing, my entire college career. If I didn't take part in it, then I wouldn't want it. This is basically the same rationalization used by the Marcus Bachmanns of the World. I love my wife. I love my wife. I love my wife. Fuck! Ryan Gosling.

After the first class, I knew I had made a huge mistake. I should have been writing. I wanted to entertain people. I wanted to tell stories. I wanted to make people laugh. I skipped the rest of the day and cried in my car.

I know this seems overdramatic, and in a lot of ways, it is. But being someone who is obsessed with making the right decision, with having control, with having a clear path, realizing I was thoroughly unhappy with the choices I had made, left me feeling helpless. So I ignored it. Until I couldn't ignore it, roughly 30 days before I walked across a stage and accepted my makeshift diploma.

That's how this happened. My blog. I just thought I would write about work. And then a few people started reading. Then I learned how to network a bit, and a few more people started reading. I remember hitting 10 followers and losing my shit. Ten! Fucking 10 people chose to read some nonsense I've written.

It was the happiest I had been in a long time.

Then my expectations rose. The comparisons. The criticism. All the things that make doing something you love difficult.

I buckled.

I convinced myself that being a writer was not going to happen. That I wasn't tough enough. That I wasn't good enough.

I got in my own way.

Normally, I'm not a fan of overly personal posts. I figure no one actually gives a damn that I'm completely confused and have no clue what my next step is. But maybe you do. Maybe you feel the same way.

But whatever your opinion, this is here. A reminder to myself that while fallible, I can make the conscious decision to do what I love. To accept the confusion and the fear, because they are just as critical of characters in this journey as confidence and happiness. I will continually live with them all. And that's okay.

I just have to remember, that writing is what makes me happy. And even if that means the only person I'm writing for is myself, it's enough.

I'm enough.

We're enough.

I'll be back talking about weird shit in a couple days. Until then, my friends.

Every day is Not Valentine's Day. I Will Stab You with an Arrow.

I woke up Matt/the dude I tricked into loving me at 6:30 in the morning with the following:

Allie: Happy Valentine's day!

Matt: (murmurs something unintelligible due to his face being smashed into a pillow)

Allie: Huh? I can't hear you, because YOU'RE SLEEPING!

Matt: Oh. My. God. Happy Valentine's day, baby.

I'm seeing a lot of "Every day is Valentine's Day in my house" on social media today, and I think it's time to call bullshit.

As someone who is in a looonnggg-term, live-in relationship I can say, for certain, that most days are not Valentine's Day.

Most days are like Guy Fawkes Day. Or President's Day. Or World Aids Day. Or "I'm going to kill you if I have to replace another empty toilet paper roll" Day.

Maybe if you said "Every day is like St. Patrick's Day" and you're in a relationship with an alcoholic, I'd believe you--but Valentine's Day?!?

Get out of here with that shit.

I love Matt. But most days are like Arbor Day. Or Canadian Thanksgiving.

Allie: I'm going to stab you in the face with an arrow ... like Cupid. It will be romantic.

Matt: You would stab yourself with the arrow. You would never hit me.

Allie: Oh, I would hit you! It would be like The Hunger Games.

Matt: Really? Because I don't remember Katniss tripping and impaling herself with her arrows.

Today was Administrative Professionals Day, at best.

I'm Giving Up Awesome Shit for Lent in Hopes to Become the New Pope.

My friend Lisa loves to participate in Lent. Just to be clear, she is not a Catholic, she is a masochist.

Last year, she gave up Facebook. The year before, she went without potatoes/potato products. So while having a lovely breakfast with my dear friend last week, I was not surprised when she shared that she'd be giving up bread and grains (basically doing the whole paleolithic eating thing) this year.

"So you're doing it with me, right?" she asked.

"Um..."

"Because I saw that you've been eating really clean lately, and it will be fun to do it together."

There's something about Lisa. She has a type of contagious and boundless enthusiasm that could make water-boarding sound super rad.

"Sure," I said, as I shoveled a homefry in my mouth. "How long is it?"

"40 days."

"Oh, that will be easy." I said, wondering if I should suck off the hollandaise that spilled on my shirt.

Hours later, after the Stockholm's wore off, I was contemplating my exit strategy. See, I'm not a big fan of deprivation. Or Catholicism. I am, however, a huge fan of cookies, which I learned are not considered paleo. That little fact makes me very suspicious of anyone who would do this shit voluntarily, but that is another post for another time.

I was all ready to tell Lisa that I'm not a Catholic and the only thing I want to give up is that pedophile-propagating, Nazi pope.

And sure enough, the bastard resigns.

Goddammit.

I guess when a former Baptist claims she'll only give up delicious, delicious carbs when the pope hangs up his silly hat, and then he does.

She's got to follow through.

So there you have it. Tonight I cried over a bowl of Mac and Cheese. Tomorrow I will be a ... Lent-ee, Lent-er, huge bitch.

I plan on keeping you guys abreast of the situation, mainly on Twitter and Instagram, so you should follow me (and crazypants Lisa). Also feel free to join in on the abuse by using #Lent2013 and #NotReallyaCatholic.

So, Wait, You Want a Tea and a Latte?

I will not be saying what coffee shop I work in, because I need money for therapy.

BUT ... if it was Starbucks, this shit would be really funny.

Marfuh. Amorfa. Whatever.
